Closing Meeting

Members of the 2008 – 2009 Building Committee met informally to accomplish closure to the past year’s activities. Alan Rumrill was unable to attend.
Until the selectmen’s meeting on June 1, 2009, we were under the impression that the Committee would be in effect until the Moderator appoints a new Committee, or at least until the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1, 2009. However, the reality is that, as of the end of Town Meeting on May 17, 2009, the 2008 - 2009 Committee was dissolved, essentially as the result of a flaw in the 2008 warrant article wording that established the Committee.
We discussed that more than a third of the Committee’s budget, which could have been used to replace the “garage” door on the Gould House and to other good effect, will go unspent and be returned to the general fund. We also summarized the past year’s accomplishments and discussed items we wished we’d had time and money for.
Hope was expressed that the composition of the new Committee will be substantially the same as we developed into a strong team over the course of the nine months we had to work together. It was also noted that we gained a great deal of knowledge that would be helpful going forward, should we have that opportunity.
As June 18th is on the calendar for another meeting, we thought it best to leave it reserved in the event a new Committee is appointed and can meet by then.
