Minutes for Meeting Convened May 7, 2009
Stoddard Town Hall
7:00 PM
Members Attending: Chairman Dick Briere, Vice Chair Amy Rokoszak, Alan Rumrill, Penny Betz, Harry Power, P.J. Lamothe, Arnie Stymest and Sandy Holland
Absent: David Vaillancourt
Financial Advisory Committee Representative: Pat McMahon
Public in attendance: Dick Betz
Chairman Briere called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
A general discussion around presentation of plans for the Gould House, working to get the house onto the Historic Register ended with a statement that a formal presentation, including plans for the library, will not be made until later in the year, ideally when the summer residents are here. The Committee will continue working to obtain estimates for completing the town offices as proposed by Aho to use as a comparison when any presentation is made. Dick Briere took the plan boards home to calculate square footage, etc.
Signage for the parking lot was discussed. For the near term, we will ask the selectmen’s admin assistant to order signs for handicapped parking, Exit, No Exit, etc. We will talk to the CEO about making more attractive signs in the future. Also, regarding the parking, it was determined we need more beams at the back to prevent anyone from going into the ditch. Reflectors will also be purchased as an interim measure.
Members went into the parking lot to discuss plantings and what would be needed to facilitate the landscaping efforts such as topsoil, mulch, garden hoses, etc. Amy Rokoszak had prices for plantings from Agway and Home Depot, with Home Depot being much less expensive. Arnie Stymest is going to call Blanchflower & Lumber in Alstead to get prices for delivered mulch. A date to work together on landscaping was tentatively set for May 15th, pending approval by the selectmen. Harry Power has offered his tractor for one day.
Dick Briere noted that on Saturday, May 9th, he will be meeting someone from MacMillin to go under the Town Hall to get an assessment what might be needed to start work to better preserve the building.
Money and budgets were discussed in general, but specifically to state that the article for $50K for the Gould House will be tabled. The article for $50K for Town Hall belongs to the selectmen but the building committee would recommend that it be amended downward as no firm plans for repairs or preservation are in place at this time.
The next Building Committee meetings will be May 21st and June 4th at 7 PM at Town Hall.
Meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.
Respectfully submitted:
