Highlights of Friends of the Davis Public Library meeting Nov. 9th, 2010
1. Simon Brooks, storyteller program @ Town Hall was attended by about 20 children and 10 adults and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Mr Brooks’ performance in Stoddard was the result of a Friends donation to the CLIF Literacy Foundation.
2. High-speed internet has arrived @ DPL. Users will need the new password which can be obtained from Kelly Taylor, librarian.
3. Friends distributed tricks or treats on Halloween at the Library from 5-7pm.. The treats were in small gift bags. Pictures will be on display in the library. The hours next year will be 530-730pm. A flyer will be sent to the Faulkner School a week before Halloween announcing there will be trick or treating @ the DPL.
4. The Friends, along w/Kelly our librarian are in the process of establishing the Huard Electronic Media Center in the library. We will be purchasing 2 Nook e-readers and 2 MP3 players. Kelly recently attended a preparatory training. On Dec 7th @ 230pm we will have a “bar-coding party” @ the DPL Some helping hands would be appreciated.
5. The friends will sponsor 2 Winter speakers from the NH Humanities Council. Names TBA.
6. Free passes to the Telephone Museum in Warner are available in the library now. Shortly we will also have free passes to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord and the Mariposa Museum in Peterborough.
7. The library is looking to expand its DVD collection and welcomes DVD donations. Call Kelly at 446-6251 if you have DVDs you’d like to donate.
8. The friends paid for the installation of a cable under the library table for the use of a laptop computer.
9. We are creating a committee to be responsible for putting up seasonal decorations inside and outside the library. There will be a meeting on Tues. Nov 16th @ 230 pm at the library for anyone interested in being part of this.
10. There will be no December Board meeting.
