Volunteer Opportunities

What would Stoddard be like without volunteers? Our official town government is small and expenditures are low, due in large measure to the numerous tasks that volunteers perform in our town each and every day. Volunteering has become such a large part of Stoddard that it is unimaginable to think of a world without it. Let us consider some scenarios without volunteers. If there were no volunteer firefighters, emergency responders, youth leaders and organizers, Stoddard’s safety, social, and sports activities would be affected. Without voluntary organizers and fund-raisers would it be possible to have Olde Home Days, social & music events, or festivals? What might our beautiful environment be like if people refused to volunteer? Our landscape, beautiful places, and wildlife would surely be neglected.

You might be thinking, "The little bit that I can do will never help much!" or "What in the world can I do?" If you've ever spent ten minutes reading a book to a lonely child, you know that even that small amount of compassion and attention can make a world of difference. No one person can solve the world's problems, but what little you do can do can make your corner of the world a happier, healthier, safer place for all of us.

There is nothing more rewarding than finding a way to devote your time, energy and compassion to help your neighbors and give back to your community. From reading to a child, to helping in an emergency, to visiting the elderly, there are countless ways to touch the hearts and lives of those around you.

Some of the best reasons to give for volunteering are the ones you may not have considered - the ones that make it worth your while to go that extra step. People who have spent time volunteering report that they get back in satisfaction and joy more than they ever expend in inconvenience or effort. You'll also receive these benefits:

  • Volunteering makes you feel needed.
  • Volunteering can help you with self-esteem and self-confidence.
  • Volunteering helps you meet new people and breaks down barriers of misunderstanding, mistrust and fear.
  • Volunteering can lead to learning new skills.
  • Volunteering can create new contacts which may help your business or career.

If you are already a volunteer, we thank you and invite you to browse the opportunities on this website to learn about other ways to contribute to our town. If you are not currently a volunteer, we encourage you to devote time to giving back to Stoddard. Even if you do not have a lot of time, there are many ways to volunteer and reinforce the community spirit that will help us build a brighter and stronger future.
