Welcome to Stoddard New Hampshire where, it is said, the rainfall on the west side of the town hall flows into the Connecticut river and the rain on the east side flows into the Contocook. The town sits at about 1,400 feet in elevation, one of the highest towns in the state, and enjoys some pretty exciting weather. A short hike up to the Pitcher Mountain firetower at 2,200' offers views of Mt. Monadnock to the south and, on a clear day, as far as Mt. Washington to the northeast. Scottish Highland cattle roam the fields below the mountain and the surrounding lakes hold good fishing and boating. With a year round population of just over one thousand, Stoddard may seem like a sleepy little town, but underneath there is quite a lot going on. Stoddard is a town of volunteers. People of the town provide for the town and neighboring communties by hosting numerous outdoor sport and cultural adventures throughout the year as well as giving generously of their time and talents whenever helping hands are needed. While enjoying the pristine lakes and forests of Stoddard, the residents are very conscious of what it takes to preserve our natural landscapes and habitats. Stoddard has over 50 % of its land in conservation easements and the residents recently overwhelmingly voted at town meeting to support the purchase 1.617 acres of Robb Reservoir and surrounding land. We continue to work hard to be good stewards of the lands and waters but also know how to enjoy it all. There are miles and miles of hiking trails, cross country ski trails and snowsledding trails. The many lakes and ponds provide for some excellent fishing, boating, swimming, waterskiing and in the winter months the lakes attract ice fishermen and kids with hockey sticks! Without the generosity of so many of the residents, Stoddard would indeed be just another sleepy little town. We welcome you to browse through our virtual town and then come for a visit, or if you already live here check out what you could be missing!
