The Knight-Davis House

Historic Buildings in the Town Center

The Knight-Davis House

Possible from c. 1946. Notes on the photo are likely by Charles Peirce.

This house is located at the corner of King’s Highway (King's Street) and Rt. 123 North. It is on the same side of Rt. 123N as the Town Hall, but east of the Town Hall.

While some houses are better known by the names of older residents (primarily 19th century), the Knight-Davis House is partly named after the couple, Edward and Louise Davis. Louise was the town librarian, when the library was housed in the Historical Society Building from 1926-1946. She bequeathed money to the town for the present Davis Public Library located diagonally across the street from her house.

The Knight-Davis House was built by Wilder Knight in 1835, later owned by Solon Estey and his family, then by William H. Chapin and Mary J. Chapin in the 1880’s. The Davises owned it then in the early half of the 20th century.
